- I wanted to share a look at a piece I completed at the end of the last plein air painting season. I visited a local wetlands area and, despite my initial hesitation about the location, decided to make the most of the remaining good weather.For this piece, I began by coating the wood panel in red and chose to move away from a literal representation of the scene. While the clouds, trees, and lilies provided the foundational reflections in the water, I took a more creative and freeing approach to the composition, incorporating the red background directly into the scene.I am very happy with the results. It was a refreshing experience to paint more intuitively rather than focusing strictly on every shape, value, and color.
